On this page you can find the foot and hand surgical procedures we offer our patients.
Carpal tunnel syndrome surgery
Carpal tunnel syndrome develops when the nerve running through the wrist is compressed, which can cause numbness, tingling and pain in the hand and fingers. During the operation the surgeon divides the transverse ligament of the wrist, which releases the nerve and removes the pressure. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia and usually takes 15–20 minutes. Sensitivity around the skin incision may last for a few weeks after the operation, but the numbness and pain gradually go away.
Trigger finger surgery
Trigger finger develops when the flexor tendon of the finger thickens or the tendon sheath narrows, causing the finger to catch, click and hurt. During the operation we make a 1–1.5 cm incision over the opening of the tendon sheath, then split the tendon sheath ring lengthwise, which removes the narrowing and restores free movement of the finger. After a few hours of observation the patient can go home, and full recovery usually takes 3–6 weeks.
Calcaneostop surgery for childhood flatfoot
Calcaneostop surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat flatfoot in children. A special implant is placed between the heel bone and the talus, which corrects the arch of the foot and stabilises the foot. This improves the statics of the foot and can prevent later musculoskeletal problems. After the operation the child can return to everyday activities within a short time, and the function of the foot improves significantly.
Forefoot surgery – single and complex
Forefoot operations aim to correct deformities at the front of the foot, such as bunions (hallux valgus), hammer toes and other changes. Single procedures treat one problem, while complex procedures correct several changes at the same time. The type and extent of the operation depend on the patient’s individual condition, and its aim is to reduce pain and to restore the function and appearance of the foot.
